Emojidom is using several standard Android permissions for the functionality it offers. Here is a short summary in “human” language:
Read phone status and identity
It’s a pretty standard Android permission. If you get a call while using Emojidom, our app needs to know and let you switch to taking a call instead of being stuck inside our app. The “identity” is a device number which lets us see if you have one or more devices (e.g. a tablet), across which we need to synchronise your smiley purchases and collected coins.
Take pictures and videos
You can create your own photo-icons in Emojidom: tap the “camera” tab and try importing any image which will turn into an icon-emoji. This also allows you taking a new photo and importing it immediately. The app doesn’t take any pictures “itself”, it’s you who takes every picture. And we don’t use videos in Emojidom (this is the name Google gave to this permission, which also includes videos).
Modify your contacts
Emojidom has a fun feature: add a smiley to any contact in your address book. Just tap and hold any smiley for 1-2 seconds, and you will see a pop-up for this. So instead of a faceless boring Contacts list, you get a colorful bunch of smileys for your contacts. To enable modifying the contact’s image, we need this permission. Other than this, Emojidom doesn’t touch your contacts. We don’t delete or know your contacts, and don’t want to know them – we’ve got interesting lives without that :)
Modify or delete the contents of your USB storage
You can download HD images for all smileys in the app. These are saved in your internal memory, hence this permission. We never delete anything or gain access to what you store in your USB storage.
Find accounts on the device
You know those apps where you need to log in manually every time you use them? Argh… Well, there is a much better way of authenticating your account in the background on Android devices without putting you through the trouble of manually typing your username and password. So Emojidom is smart enough to recognize your account automatically when you open the app. Why do we need that? If you download any optional smileys, buy or collect coins, we store the history of your transactions on our server. So if you ever need to reinstall the app, get a new phone or a tablet and would like to sync your Emojidom data, it now becomes possible. We don’t want to give you a horrible experience of losing all your app data if you lose your phone, for example.
Full network access
That’s an easy one, basically it’s the internet access. You need to be online if you’d like to send a message from Emojidom, collect coins, download smileys or buy in-app purchases.
Retrieve running apps
Emojidom integrates with many messaging apps. You see the Emojidom icon inside such apps, and this permission lets us know which chat apps you have running where we need to display the Emojidom icon.
Draw over other apps
Similar to the above permission, this one lets us display the Emojidom icon inside many chat apps.
That’s it! If you think it’s a lot, have a look at the list of permissions of popular apps such as Facebook or Instagram. We don’t ask for anything which our app doesn’t need.
Last but not least, we are based in the Netherlands and follow strict privacy regulations.
And one last thing: we are a successful app with millions of downloads and great user ratings. Our app doesn’t have “viruses”, it doesn’t mess with your device on the system level, and it doesn’t install any ad-related apps on your phone. We respect your device and want you to have fun with our smileys.
